Landfill / Diversion / Operations Coordinator

Flagstaff Waste is currently seeking a motivated individual to lead staff and oversee all company activities including waste bin rentals/collections operations, curbside waste collection, multi-stream recycle collection, processing, sorting and marketing, transfer site operations and all activities related to operating a Class II landfill for 10 municipalities within Flagstaff County.

Landfill/Diversions/Operations Coordinator

Duties:

• Coordinate diversion and recycle operations to reduce annual waste disposal in landfills. Develop and maintain industry contacts to maximize market return on recycled materials.

• Coordinate trucking & personnel with transportation coordinator for daily dispatch of front-end & roll off trucks, including daily route sheets

• Ensure safety training is completed as scheduled, ensure compliance with all safety policies, coordinate safety committee meetings, and other safety responsibilities to ensure AMHSA Certificate of Recognition (COR)

• Oversee daily operation of the landfill including disposal, compaction & cover and supervision of landfill staff

• Maintain transfer stations and ensure integrity of waste streams flow-through at 5 transfer sites. Provide annual inspections and maintenance records for transfer sites. Maintain updated training of staff regarding proper diversion protocols, allowable volumes, maintenance procedures and safety protocols throughout the landfill and transfer sites.

• Ensure daily cover is maintained on all inbound Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

• Ensure OH&S protocols followed for all asbestos and C&D disposal.

• Direct supervision of all landfill staff including scale operator, yard hand, recovery hand, and landfill/equipment operator

Qualifications:

• Grade twelve or equivalent, Landfill Operators Basic Certificate, First Aid, clear understanding of safety protocols, Class 3 or better Alberta operator’s License.

• Excellent writing and verbal skills, with computer proficiency including Microsoft 365 suite and other 3rd party software

• Able to work with a minimum of supervision, ability to problem solve, prioritize, manage schedules and keep records.
