Resource Recovery / Yard Hand / Burro Operator

Job Duties & Expectations:

WEEK A:

Work with landfill team to maximize recyclables and divertible materials from waste stream.

Recyclables include: cardboard, paper, metals, compostables, electronics, tires, paints, Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), agriculture plastic, used oil & filters, oil containers, batteries, concrete, and other materials.

**Divertibles include: **construction & demolition, clean wood, branches and trees, clean soil and subsoil and other materials that arrive from time to time.

  • Understand waste screening, waste separation, storing & packaging of recyclable materials
  • Assist baling operations, loading/weighing outbound recyclables, litter picking, yard maintenance
  • Daily inspection and regular maintenance of assigned equipment, including Skid Steers.

Week B:

Responsible for residential and commercial pickup in assigned towns and villages throughout partnership area. Ensure safe equipment operation while demonstrating courtesy to all residents and other vehicles as encountered. Working knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of assigned equipment.

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Operators License, ability to work outdoors in all weather, ability to lift heavy loads of waste on a continual basis throughout the day.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with partner with minimal supervision, good at problem solving, ability to prioritize, manage schedule and keep records.
  • Customer Service – All staffs behavior with customers is a direct reflection on Flagstaff Waste and all employees conduct themselves professionally, positively and with high integrity and respect for all members of the public.
  • Become intimately knowledgeable with the expected recycling contamination standards and quickly audit and reject / accept each pickup.

The candidate will have a minimum grade 12 education. Valid Class 5 Driver's License, ability to operate a variety of shop and landfill equipment, mechanical aptitude, and customer service aptitude.
